We've developed applications based on SQL/VB/.net that auto-generate Visio diagrams of computer racks, network cabling, connectivity diagrams, power feeds, software to server maps etc. If you are trying to create different views of a complex infrastructure then you may find this is the easiest way as it needs lots of diagrams, tailored to the need.
