Distributing grouped connectors

I make a lot of block diagrams for computer systems, using connectors with arrows to show inputs, outputs, and interconnections among the various system elements. There are often lots of these connectors and I use Visio's distribute feature to space them evenly.

Sometimes for clarity I group connectors to keep similar functions together; the spacing between connectors in a group is smaller than between groups. The problem arises when distributing grouped connectors with individual ones since the grouped connectors pick up an outer margin when they are grouped, and that causes uneven distribution. I have attached a Visio file showing what I mean.

Is there a way around this?

Interestingly, I can get a guide to snap to the centerline of any connector in the group, but I cannot get the group to snap to the guide at the centerline of a connector in the group.

I am using Visio Pro 2003.
