A challenge ... how would you draw (easily and only with Visio) this shape?

Clarification please ...

Does the fill color have to match too, or are you just interested in generating the shapes?

Sorry, the colors a there just to show that there are different shapes. The task is to generate more or less complicated tiles out of a bigger shape.

Regarding (repeating) tile patterns, I just wrote this one, in case folks missed it:

An interesting historical note.

Yacine mentioned that he used a bunch of different colors to illustrate that pieces are separate and distinct.

Before Visio 1.0 shipped, the fragment function actually did this automatically: it would assign different colors to the different pieces that resulted from using the Fragment operation, so that users wouldn't be "confused". It was kind of fun, but depending on your tastes, it could be a bid loud or tacky-looking.

Chris,
there's indeed a pinch of fragment in the soup.  ;)

The issue is that when you fragment, you get 1 (one, ONE, uno, ein, un, wahid,...) line to delimit between 2 shapes. You can you use it either for one side or the other to generate the tile. What about the left over side?

Here's one approach for the 1st example -- using the fragment technique.  The Visio file is a 3 page progression.

..and here's for the 2nd, traditional puzzle pattern.

Again, just fragmenting...
