Every time I output a Visio file to JPG or PNG, there's a black border around it. How do I get rid of it? It's not in the options when you're converting. Any ideas?

Hi kitalooclef,

I wonder if it might be related to the anti-aliasing settings under Tools > Options?

There's a Display options section in the dialog with check boxes:

  • Smooth drawing
  • Higher quality shape display

You can also crop the image with photo editing software (even Paint!) and, if you are re-importing into Visio, there is a crop tool for foreign objects. You'll find it on the Picture Toolbar.

I believe this is an artifact of Visio.  A work around would be to copy the Visio drawing into Power Point--copy/paste ought to work, if not, try paste special.  Then, save the Power Point slide as jpg.  Black border ought to be gone.  Anyway, this works in Office 2007.

I know that when I save PNGs with transparent backgrounds from Visio, there's always a 1-pixel border around the image that is not to my liking. I just open it in Microsoft Office Picture Manager and crop 1 pixel from each side.

Curious.  Another case where Visio isn't quite "harmonized" with the rest of Microsoft Office products!?!  Bottom line seems to be that Visio's export / save as functionality needs to be updated so that these extra steps can be avoided.
