Notes/Annotation UI

I'm currently using a mind-mapping software largely because it has a great 'notes' feature that allows me to annotate effortlessly, which is very important to me as I am developing ideas.
So basically - I would like to see similar robust annotating functionality, with a similar 'notes' pane.
