Title: Keeping Shape ID for a group of shapes.
Post by: freshlychurnedbutter on January 29, 2022, 07:17:36 PM
I have an existing master shape with shape data defined. The shape is affected by user inputs into the shape data.

At this point, I need to add more features to the master shape. However, if I ungroup the master shape while editing it and then regroup when I'm finished, I lose all the shape data because the new group has a different shape ID. Any thoughts around this?

Edit: I am a dumbass. After quickly doing some research on this forum, I have discovered the "Add to group" function in Visio. Please ignore my stupidity. Thanks!

You never need to ungroup a shape once grouped. On the Group menu there is an Edit option. That is what you need to use.

Adding to Paul's response, Visio has an add-to-group feature.  This allows adding more shapes to a defined group.
