Title: Visio Home Plan issues
Post by: Starlite on October 11, 2021, 05:43:24 AM
G'day,

I'm trying to use Visio 2010's "Home Plan" template to plan where to put my furniture before I start unpacking lots of boxes. I've measured the inside of the flat, but Visio seems to be fighting me when it comes to exact dimensions, particularly with window and door locations, and with joining rooms using an open space.

I think I have three questions:

1. How do I join two "rooms" together to create more complex and accurate shapes than the rather loose L and T shapes?  Or am I better off just creating every wall independently?
2. How do I control the exact position of a window or door in the wall of a room or wall?
3. What stencil item is intended to be used as a kitchen bench?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Until I get this thing drawn and try a few different combinations, I really won't feel ready to start unpacking anything!

IMHO MS Visio is not good choice for exact dimensions.
1. Of course you can creating every wall independently.
Or draw your plan with lines and use command "Convert to Walls".
This way can be very quick and you can create very complex form of room. But it can very exact, especially for "external side of wall" (contrside of reference line).
I have video about this way in Russian language, you can see it with sub-titles
2. Use dimension lines and guide-lines
