Title: Making new icons for shapes
Post by: lizat on May 10, 2020, 05:00:36 PM
This is so laborious I wonder if there's an easy way to do this. I mean the icon that shows in the stencil for a shape. Where possible I use the actual shape but if there is associated text it doesn't really work so i have to create a new icon.

Any suggestions?

AFAIK, shape icon is really more of a pixel image.  I am not aware of any method or tool for that other than how visio generates it.

A couple of things.
- you could set shape icon to 64 X 64 to give you more resolution  (right click master shape ==> edit master properties)
(this will make the master icon 4X the size of the default...so easier to read).
- you could bag the icon and just have elaborate text description of the master

Good luck

You can actually always use a shape to create the icon, just make sure to uncheck the option "Show live preview in Shapes Window". The option is in the Master Properties dialog.
Having unchecked the synchronization you can now edit the master, delete its content (the icon) and replace it by the right master.
