I've encountered the following problem (Viso 2003 Professional):
- I created a (rather extensive!) database model drawing;
- I 'opened' one of the drawn entities on the shapesheet (e.g. using Edit/Open <entityname>, the entity is opened in a second window;
- I (accidentally) closed the first window (containing 14 pages of database drawing);
- I saved the Visio file;
Now, on opening the file again, the second window (the one containing the open entity) appears AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO WAY OF EVER ACCESSING THE SHAPESHEET again!!
Visio DOES remember, however, that I was working on page 9 of 14, I can still delete pages, I can even use Search and Replace (..!??!)..... but just can't SEE anything. To say this is frustrating is an understatement... ;)
I've tried opening the file in the 2007 version but no luck...
Can't imagine I'm the first one encountering this 'feature'...

A few simple things to check first:
1. look at the Window menu and see if another window is available, but just minimised
2. also try a Window -> Tile in case it's been moved off screen.
Is this related to Workspaces? I've answered this question ten times before and keep misplacing and forgetting the answer.
In Visio 2007, under File > Properties there's a "Save Workspace" checkbox that might be causing the problem.
In Visio 2003, I think this is under File > Save As, then the "Save" button is actually a drop-down with a workspace checkbox.
Try unchecking the workspace option, saving, the re-opening.
