Title: Unable to Open Group in Visio 2016
Post by: Mull76 on August 11, 2016, 06:52:01 AM
Hi,

Has anybody else had problems with Visio 2016 and ungrouping or opening grouped drawings?  I am recently upgraded to 2016 from 2013 and have seemed to have lost the ability to open a group.  you seem to be only able to ungroup and when I do it takes over a day to do this.

I am using Visio 2016 pro for Office 365.
But I can open grouped shape.
The menu is almost same.
Right click on the group.
Select "Open xxshape" among pop up menus.

Hi,

Sorry I have Visio Standard.  Is this not an option with this version?

May be the same about fundamental menus.

I am very sorry, I made mistake!
Select Group among popup menus.
See sub menus shown.
Select Open Group among sub menus.

If you paste some type of foreign object into Visio, like a metafile, or you import an SVG object, then you can "ungroup" it, but you can't open the group.

The long ungroup time makes me think it's rather complex, such as a big CAD drawing...?

In this rather weird instance, the command should probably be something like "Convert to Group"--in fact I think there used to be a command named just that--since you are really converting, then ungrouping.

So if you see Ungroup active, but Open Group inactive, be suspicious that you've got some sort of foreign thing that isn't 100% Visio yet.
