Title: Visio won't save shape menus
Post by: GPX on April 21, 2014, 06:05:44 PM
Using Visio 2003
The shape menus keep disaapearing. When I save as a new filename and then open, I have no shapes and have to select all the libraries again.
I'm referring to the menus on the left sidebar, the the objects in the diagrams. It's a real pain to re-open more than a dozen shape libraries every time.

To ensure the stencils are saved you need to select "Save Workspace" on the save dialog (as you have already done a Save, you will need to do a Save As and select the same filename).

There is no "Save Workspace" under file or on the save as dialog box. There is a Stencil file type in the save as dialog box (.vss file).  Is that what you mean?

... I just noticed the save button has a drop down that has a "Save Workspace" ... it seems to be selected by default. I'll have to test it a few times and see ...

That seems to work. Thanks

It is well hidden. In the UI redesign for Visio 2010 they had the chance of making it even more obscure, so they did.
