Title: Reporting is inconsistent?
Post by: alecg on May 16, 2013, 10:03:27 PM
Hi all!  This one has us baffled!

I have two very basic Visio files.  The layouts and objects in them are identical.  Their reports are not!?
I'm attaching screen shots.

Any thoughts?

I really want to add reporting to our basic operating procedures model, but I'm scared to do it if I'm gonna get buggy results!

Difficult to explain, but the fix is easier.
Select the Inventory report, choose Modify, on the 2nd page of the dialog select <Shape Name> instead of <Master Name>.

That actually worked pretty well!  This report mode is the only one that correctly represents all items on the page.  The problem now, however is that it adds a 2 digit extension to the end of each item so the I have 4 "AV Plates" listed individually and with a quantity of one.  Also, I apply text the dynamic connectors "e.g. 10ft HDMI" and that is not shown in the report.  This is closer, but I would really love to have totals and manually entered text.  Any thoughts?

that 'two digit extension' is part of the shape name.

You're right of course, Al. I'm sure I tried this and got a correct report. <Shape name> can never have a count other than 1, can it.
Alec, best to go back to the original report and find out why the diagrams are different. Have you edited any of the master shapes in the Document Stencil?
