Title: Visio 2010 File Association Error
Post by: dkcorreia on January 16, 2013, 10:18:47 PM
I associated my SVG files to open in Visio 2010 using the below steps and I get a runtime error (attached).  Does anyone know of a fix for this?

1)   Right click on an SVG file. Drag Open with > Choose default program . . .
2)   Click Browse . . .
3)   Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14:
4)   Click the VISIO.EXE file.
5)   Click Open at the bottom of the dialog box.

Visio is not a suitable program to open SVG files.
My default program for SVG files is Internet Explorer, best to reset the assocation back to that.

You can drag SVG files into Visio, but what really happens is that Visio runs a conversion. You can see that the name of the resulting Visio drawing is not the same as the SVG file, so you aren't really editing the file in the true sense of the word.

This might be why the file association isn't really working properly.
