Title: Invalid Schema. Trying to import MS Word XML to Visio
Post by: mike.walton on January 23, 2012, 05:58:41 PM
Hi there,

I'm trying to automatically generate a visual site map in Visio 2010 using a Word document I created in Word 2010. The Word doc has the Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3 table structure, and I'm saving to XML but I'm still not having any luck importing the data into Visio. When I'm in brainstorming mode in Visio I click on Import Data, I select the XML document that was created in Word and I get the message "Unable to import file. Import file does not contain valid schema."

I went to Microsoft's support site and downloaded the 2010 schema reference file, but I'm still receiving the same message.

I'm a notice at Visio. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I just tested it by creating a BS map in Visio, export it to Word, and then import back into Visio. I'd suggest that you create a test Visio drawing based on what you want, export it and then compare the file format of what you have created with the test case to verify that the XML is the same.
