I do share your interest for Sankey diagrams. What do you think about this one?
It's an almost pure connector and can be edited as such.
With some data connection features later on, to sum and substract the different flows, it could become the "ideal" one ;D.
The formating possibilities are of course limited (no border, no begining shape,...), but hey.
