What I cannot find out about on the Microsoft website, is information on what kind of features of a shape can slow a shape down significantly so it affects user experience dealing with large diagrams (this is for diagrams that have 500+ group shapes and a 1000+ subshapes in those groups).
For instance: in the Basic Shapes stencil, I have used the rounded rectangle shape as a subshape. This one is complicated with quite a few user fields and actions. I wonder if that slows down a large diagram unnecessarily (when Visio rerenders it after a change), or if it doesn't matter.
