Title: Embedded Audio Recordings
Post by: AnthonyBuxton on April 07, 2017, 03:26:28 PM
I design call centre telephony IVR menus....and would love the ability for the menu prompt recording ("Thank you for calling...please press 1 for..etc") to play when I click on the shape, or even better hover over the shape.  Ideally the source of the recording would be a URL rather than embedding it.
Anyone got any idea of if there is an Add-on to do this...or is anyone up for writing an Add-on to do this?

Thanks, all!

One way to do this is to create any Visio shape, with that shape Insert -> Hyperlink and create a link to the audio file.
This link will then appear on the shape's right-click menu.

or even better, in the shape's shapesheet (use the shapesheet editor)
Insert section Actions, in the action row, set the menu cell to 'Play' and the action cell to
=PLAYSOUND("C:\Windows\Media\Alarm01.wav")

Sample file attached.

Thanks, Paul...you're a genius...we've been trying to find out how to do this for ages!  Your second option allows us to right-click and then click play - is there any way to get it to play on double-clicking the shape?  We prefer the second suggestion to the first as the hyperlink causes the PC's default player to open, and Visio loses the focus...so we would end up having to toggle back and forth between Visio and, say, Media Player to hear a call flow.   Thanks again.
