Can I clip a shape using a freehand line?  When I select the rectangle, then the line on top and choose shape>operations>fragment, the lise disappears and the rectangle is unchanged.

Can I clip a solid shape with a free hand line?  What is the proper operation?

Thanks.

No restriction on using the Freehand tool.

The "line" you draw has to either begin & end on the rectangle boundary or extend beyond it so there is overlap.  Select both shapes.  Do the fragment thing.

If you don't mind slicing and dicing, the Wapperdude's got the answer.

If you are coming from illustration software, you might be asking to create an irregular clipping boundary. Visio can't do this as elegantly as illustration software, but if you don't mind converting your art into a bitmap, it can be used as a custom fill pattern inside of any shape outline.

Learning about shape - operations - fragment from this thread has saved me a ton of time.  Posting with keywords to help others with the same question find out how to clip a line using Visio.  Thanks all,
