I noticed recently some of my shapes 'blink' twice after selection.
I don't know if it has to do with the speed of my laptop, as I don't
see this 'behaviour' in my VM's
did I turn something on accidently? if so, how do I turn it off as it
is rather irritating...
anyone a clue as to what I am seeing???
Thanks!!!
Does it happen with all shapes?
I would initially suspect video drivers, can you change the screen resolution or colour depth, or even the hardware acceleration settings (all from the display settings in the control panel).
it's seems to be some visio activity only related to the shape selected
in the evenviewer I see:
23023 MustFlushScopeBeginning
23024 MouseUp
23025 MustFlushScopeEnded
23026 SelectionChanged window[1] Drawing2 Page-1 subtype is 128 [/hwnd=133446]
23027 NoEventsPending
23028 MustFlushScopeBeginning
23029 MouseMove
23030 MustFlushScopeEnded
23031 NoEventsPending
23032 MustFlushScopeBeginning
23033 MouseMove
23034 MustFlushScopeEnded
23035 NoEventsPending
23036 VisioIsIdle
23039 MustFlushScopeBeginning
23040 MouseMove
23041 MustFlushScopeEnded
23042 NoEventsPending
23043 VisioIsIdle
23047 MustFlushScopeBeginning
23048 MouseMove
23049 MustFlushScopeEnded
23050 NoEventsPending
23051 VisioIsIdle
Can you give us a clue about what shape it is?
see attached drawing.
just selecting one of the shapes (add-in not running)
and it 'blink's twice, I also see the mouse nudging 2 steps up and left
while I am not touching my mouse
No problem with it here.
Do you have any extra addins installed?
Edit: Does this only happen with the top two shapes and not the yellow star, I see the top two shapes refer to an addon called MQArchitect.
Nothing weird here either, also the events are normal so I'm guessing computer/setting problem... hard to track down, could be so many things. mmm

it also happens to the yellow shape.
I checked Tools-> Add-ins nothing there
this is driving me nuts something is interfering with my Visio shapes...
Does this happen with on a brand new empty diagram with one simple shape, say, the square from the Basic Shapes stencil?

yes :'(
Something to try, open RegEdit and navigate to the Visio section in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Visio
or whatever version you have, export the section and email it to me (or post it here and delete it later).
Maybe it's flirting? :o Sorry, couldn't resist.
Is this a new behavior, or has Visio always done this on your laptop? If it's new, have you made any system changes, installed new programs, updates that might coincide when the problem began showing up?
???

It's so irritating I would certainly have seen it before!

trying to figure that out, unfortunatly I do have a lot of changes on this
system as I tend to try a lot of stuff... 8)
My impression is the "forum" is still fishing for a solution/cause. It doesn't seem to be normal. These love - hate relationships can be very frustrating! :o
Unless someone has an alternative suggestion, and if this effect is really troubling, at this point the simplist thing might be to re-install Visio. You might want to wait to see if anyone else has a better recommendation in the next day or two.
There's nothing obvious in the registry data, except you have Shape Studio and MQArchitect, I can't help with them.
I also did repair Visio, re-install Visio, removed AIR from my system, removed Silverlight too
the problem is still there.
anyway I am 'glad' it is just on my PC and you don't see the same.
Guess I will have to live with it for now and thanks for the support!!!
Have you tried a different screen resolution or colour depth or even the video card hardware acceleration?
Seeing you said your running this on a laptop (with a synaptics touchpad?), you sure its not an automatic mouse click being done.
In a current thread about flashing shapes in the newsgroup microsoft.public.visio.general
JamesW suggests setting
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Office/11.0/Visio/Application/DrawOffScreen = 1
and that seems to have fixed the problem in that case.
You also need to tick the box at
menu Tools -> Options - Advanced -> Put all settings in registry
(do this first) and close Visio.
