Converting visio to pdf -- why does background disappear?

I'm trying to publish my visio 2007 flowchart to pdf so I can send it to clients.

Problem is, the background is lost in the conversion process.

Does anyone know how I can retain the background in the pdf version?

I use pdf995 http://www.pdf995.com/, that seems to keep backgrounds ok.

Backgrounds exported fine for me using Visio 2007 and the (free) Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS Add-in

Check that the background shapes aren't on a non-printing layer!
