The versions 2002, 2003, and 2007 all had the functions View As Horizontal and View As Vertical available, but I have had no luck finding them in the 2010 version.

For those of you that don't know, these functions allow the page to be precisely aligned either horizontally or vertically to a selected shape (usually a line).

Anyone?

Paul Herber

Do you mean the menus Shape -> Align Shapes?

Have a look at Home -> Arrange -> Position

No.  The function in 2002, 2003, and 2007 was View As Horizontal or View As Vertical depending.

If you're using 2002 or 2003, then draw a diagonal line.  Make sure page rotation is enabled.  Right-click on the line and choose View/View As Horizontal.  This will rotate the page so that the line is aligned horizontal to the working space, allowing edits at parallel and perpendicular angles.  Very useful.  Let me know.  Thanks

Sorry, not at all sure what you mean by "Make sure page rotation is enabled". I can do that at any time by holding Ctrl and dragging the page corners.
I've never seen that right-click menu. I don't think I've ever had a need for it and don't think I ever will but even so ...

I'm with Paul on this, I've never heard of or seen that functionality.  Presently running V2007.  Tried drawing a diagonal line, right click the selected line, and went thru all of the pop up menus, and there's nothing like that.

Did a "Help" search, and that came up with no references to such a function.

I have never seen this function

Did a google search on "enable page rotation"    Got 2 hits

Apparently there is supposed to be something in tools ==>options==>general is called "enable page rotation"

Although my copy of 2003 does not have that box in tools==>options==>general.....maybe is a pro only function

It looks like Visio 2002 had the feature to enable page rotation as option.  Perhaps 2003 & later have that option in the Pro version.  Similar to Vojo comments, my non-pro V2007 does not have that either.  But, from what I can tell, that just allows the user to use the control key and go to a page corner to rotate the page, as Paul mentions.  No option necessary.

Still unable to track down the View as Horizontal/Vertical features.

I don't remember the right-click menu items, but I don't doubt CN. Since rotation snaps to larger angles the closer you are to the center of rotation, you might be able to use technique as a workaround.

Would be interesting to see if a DOCMD id (still) exists for these commands. Some sort of ShapeSheet workaround might be buildable.

I appreciate the interest in my question.  I can only tell you Visio 2002 and 2003 have an enable page rotation option.  It would seem version 2007 enables page rotation naturally but requires the user to add the "View as Horizontal" and View as Vertical" functions from the menu modification utility.  In versions 2002 and 2003, you need only enable page rotation, then right click on the diagonal line and the commands are in the right-click menu.

As for 2010, I still haven't found the functions or a work around.

I wish I could demo how it works for everyone, that seems to make it much easier for people to understand.  My IT department will hopefully get me a little time with a MS expert to resolve this question.  If that happens, I'll make sure I post the solution.

Thanks

Ah, they're hidden commands in the View section
Tools -> Customize -> Commands -> Categories -> View
and scroll down to the bottom of the Commands list and you will see
View As Horizontal
View as Vertical
They change the view orientation of the page.

Can't find it in Visio 2010. There is a hidden "View Direction" that seemed hopefull, but that seems to be disabled (greyed out).

I just received an email from MS.  It seems the functions have been removed.  I don't know if they'll put them back in the future either.

I do have a qustion about a possible work around.  Where in Visio is the Page Rotation Angle shown and can it be changed manually?   Or, is there a hidden variable somewhere and can that be manipulated?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again everyone.

For what its worth....there 2 ways I could think to accomplish

1:   Easy     after you draw all your shapes one way.....group them....then rotate the group 90 deg

2:   Very Hard:    Could write a macro that swaps all the X<=>Y info  (PINX,PINY, width, heighth, BeginX, EndY,etc)
Probably have to play with text blocks to get text to rotate.

You can rotate the page manually, hold down Ctrl and hover the mouse near the corner, normally you get the page resizing handle, move the mouse further along the edge and the rotate handle will appear.
I can't find any page angle value in the shapesheet editor.
