Visio floor plans

I'm creating a scale floor plan of an existing building. When converting a shape to walls, I need the converted shape to retain the measurements as interior dimensions, not change them to perimeter measurements. Is there a way to set interior shape dimensions as default? Is there a way to connect room shapes and have the middle connecting walls convert to one shared wall, as opposed to a double wall thickness?
